WCHS News

The Wilcox County Boys Basketball team dropped two tough games last weekend to Dooly County at home and to Turner County away. They lost an away game Tuesday night against Montgomery County. They will play Hawkinsville at home tomorrow and Webster County at home Saturday.

The Wilcox County Girls Basketball team dropped two tough games last weekend to Dooly County at home and to Turner County away. They won an away game Tuesday night against Montgomery County. They will play Hawkinsville at home tomorrow and Webster County at home Saturday.

The Wilcox County Baseball Team will start practice Monday, February 2nd. Students interested in trying out, should see Coach Tim Harris.

On Inauguration Day, Mrs. Brenda Davis’s History classes and Ms. Melodie McGlamory’s junior Literature classes participated in an essay contest. The topic of the essay was “If I were President.” The 1st place winners were Brittany Gibbs, Tyler McWhorter, Taylor Sneed, Lea Harvey, Nate Moorhouse, Tommy Fuller, and Amber Ash. The 2nd place winners were John Wilson Gordon, Danielle Brooks, Jonathan Candidate, and Rob Land. The overall winner was Nate Moorhouse. Students will receive monetary prizes as well as entry to a state-wide essay contest in Plains, GA.

The first semester Honors Day program will be held February 5th. All students with “A” average Honor Roll and “All A” Honor Roll for the first semester and their parents are invited. It will be held at 10:00 in the WCHS gym.

Wilcox County High School Announces First Semester Honor’s Day

Wilcox County High School would like to announce its First Semester Honor’s Day Program scheduled for Thursday, February 5th, 2009, at 10:00 A.M. This program will honor students who earned either all A or A average honor roll status for the three consecutive six weeks of the first semester. Parents are invited to attend this special program in recognition of those students who have achieved this notable success. If you have any questions please call 229-365-7231.

WCHS Congratulates Students Who Make Good Patriot List

Wilcox County High School would like to congratulate several of our hard-working students for making the GOOD PATRIOT Award list for the third six weeks of the 2008-2009 school year. Students qualify for this award in one of three categories.

The first category is for those who receive all A’s, have perfect attendance, and have no office referrals. The students awarded in this category were: Diamond Benjamin, Mercedes Bickham, Victoria Brown, Michael Bryant, Dixie Edalgo, Iesha Faison, Brittany Gibbs, Jenna Kennedy, Adrian Lawson, Caleb Studstill, Darrell West, and Sholonda Woods.

The second category is for those who receive an A average, have perfect attendance, and have no office referrals. The students awarded in this category were: Donna Corbin, LaPorsche’ Cross, Marcus Griffin, Shanequa Jackson, Aashia Maloy, Richard Paramore, Amber Sinnott, Richard Vaughn, and Keonna Wilcox.

The third category is for those who passed all classes, had perfect attendance, and had no office referrals. The students awarded in this category were Chris Carter, John Culpepper, Stanley Ferguson, Gary Gordon, Greg Jackson, Chris Rimes, and Shane Smith.

Those in the first category are entered into a drawing in which one student wins a $50 gift card to a local vendor, the second category, a drawing in which one student wins a $30 gift card to a local vendor, and the third category, a drawing in which one student wins a $20 gift card to a local vendor. The winners of these cards were as follows: Jenna Kennedy, the $50 gift card, Marcus Griffin, the $30 gift card, and Shane Smith, the $20 gift card. All students in all three categories were treated to lunch from Subway for their great accomplishments.

WCES Student of the Month for December

Wilcox County Elementary School is proud to announce the students chosen as Student of the Month for each class during the month of December. Students were chosen for excellence in academics, behavior, and attitude.

  • Kindergarten – James Lashley, Gracie Paramore, Elizabeth McClendon, Elana McClendon, Trinity Coley, and Judge McDonald
  • First Grade – Ahmad Johnson, Darris Wiggins, Abegail Gibson, Justin Ledford, Christian Gonzalez, and Carson Burnette
  • Second Grade – Nikeyah Joyner, Esmerelda Dennard, Kristyn McGlamry, Chloe Clark, Jodi Mattair, and Bo Keene
  • Third Grade – Christopher Marshall, Leonor Rincon, Seth Satterfield, Trajata Colbert, Leah-Aunna Mahoganey, and Tiffany Poke
  • Fourth Grade – Autumn Tripp, Garrison Patterson, Madison Stubbs, Derrica Bonner, Jordan Ledford, and Jacob Brown
  • Fifth Grade – Alyssa Lott, Jay Hayes, Cason Bloodworth, Morgan Williford, and Katlin Swain

We commend these students for their outstanding academic achievement and exceptional behavior.

WCMS News

Yesterday marked the 100th day of school. Eighth grade students took the Middle Grades Writing test on Wednesday of this week. Hope everyone did their very best.

Parents can still enroll students in the Patriot After School Study (PASS) program. The PASS program meets on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:30 until 5:00 at Wilcox Elementary School. Supplemental Educational Services (SES) are also being offered again. Parents have until February 13, 2009 to enroll middle school students in these tutoring programs. Consider getting your child this additional help to better prepare them for the upcoming CRCT in April. Contact Mrs. Sutton, WCMS principal, for more information about either of these free tutoring programs.

In sports, a basketball game is scheduled for today at 4:30 p.m. Come out and support the WCMS patriots!

WCMS News

Today is day 97! This is our 1st full week back from Christmas break. We have been taking Benchmark tests this week for math and reading to see what we need to work on for the CRCT. Eighth graders have also been preparing for the Middle Grades Writing Test that they have to pass in order to go to ninth grade. The test will be Wednesday, January 21st.

Report cards went out this past Tuesday. I hope everyone’s was good!

RESA Writers and RESA Math teams are getting ready to participate in February. I hope everyone has a good rest of the week and a great weekend!
