The Wilcox County Patriot News has been hosted at WordPress.com since the beginning of the 2009-2010 school year. Today I am pleased to announce that the news blog now has a new home at http://wcpats.com. The new site is powered by the latest version of WordPress, so things should look fairly similar from an end-user perspective. But now with a dedicated web host more information and media such as photo galleries and videos can now be shared on the blog. Bob’s Date

The One Act Play cast has been announced for Bob’s Date. There are a total of seven actors, 2 females and 5 male. Bob’s Date is a short play that contains comedy. Bob, who is not actually in the play, is going on his first date in two years. All of his manly inner attributes: Logic, Confidence, Nerves, Libido, and Bull are gearing up for the event. Then a love-at-first-sight moment wakes long-sleeping Emotion, and she threatens to throw the night into chaos. But if the men weren’t ready to handle Emotion, then they’re certainly not prepared to take on the Memory of the woman who broke Bob’s heart.

Actors compete at region in early November. Cast members are: Logic-Ethan Rountree, Confidence- Kameon Peavy Nerves- Wesley Helms, Libido- Matt Iglesias, Bull- J.T. Ramsey, Emotion- Lacey Gaines, and Memory- Tynesha Griffin.

Crowning of the Homecoming Queen

Excitement rose at the football game Friday Sept. 24, 2010, when Wilcox County High School crowned their new Homecoming Queen. The Homecoming court consisted of the following girls: Brianna Bonner, LaPorsche’ Cross, Sara Hall, Alanna Harris, Rebekka Ledford, Aashia Maloy, Jalisa McKinney, Valeri Munford, and Amanda Ussery.

Freshman Sweethearts: Mollie Keene and Hailey Fletcher, Sophomore Sweethearts: Lindsey Ponder and Quanesha Wallace, Junior Sweethearts: Dixie Edalgo and Nastashia James appeared on the football field Friday night as well.

The WCHS Homecoming King was Nick Marshall. He was chosen king on earlier in the month. The new WCHS Homecoming Queen is Rebekka Ledford. Rebekka was crowned by the previous Homecoming Queen, Jenna Kennedy. The first runner up was Sara Hall. The second runner up was Amanda Ussery.

ALL COLOR YEARBOOK

What a fantastic idea! This year’s high school yearbook is now ALL color! The yearbook staff has been working very hard to make this happen for the 2011 seniors of Wilcox County High School.

There is though, one glitch in the making of this yearbook. To acquire an all color yearbook, Mrs. McCall had to make the decision of cutting out 12 pages. Her yearbook staff, however, was more than excited about the whole thing being in color.

Now that the page number has changed, the yearbook staff has decided to completely change the layout. “It’s almost the same every year!” says yearbook staff senior member Amanda Warren, “Its time for a change!”

There are so many ideas boiling in their heads. They can’t wait for the chance to be able to put it all together.

Yearbooks go on sale in October. The selling price starts at $36 and goes up a dollar every month after that. Students and teachers have your money ready!

JROTC:Raider Team

Except for the quarter size blisters, it was all fun and games. The Wilcox County Raider team is a competitive team that can span a bridge made of a single rope across two wooden poles and get everyone across the rope and tear it back down. Whoever does this in the least amount of time, wins. This event is called the rope bridge. Since the team tries to do this event in the least amount of time possible, members tend to rip some skin off their fingers going across but their attitude is, “I don’t mind.” There are two other events, the litter carry and the three mile relay. The litter carry consists of eight people. The first four tie the weight bag on the litter and run it to the other four. They grab the litter and run back and whichever team does it the fastest, wins. The three mile relay has the team spread out with one person to a station. They have to sprint and pass a baton from station to station. Each station is about a football field length apart. Overall the team events are very physically challenging and a lot of fun.

What’s the best pizza around town? From the looks of it, it comes from a small little guy, about 5’2”, with dark brown hair. Have you figured it out yet?

Matt Iglesias, has been making his own pizzas since he was the age of 12. His inspiration came from different people, but mostly his parents. One day he made a pizza and his parents told him he should start a business selling pizzas. This is where his career took off.

“I have a blast!” says Iglesias. When asked if he likes what he is doing he replies laughing, “I wouldn’t get in the kitchen and slave over the stove if I didn’t like it.”

At one time he has used a clay oven that he has in his house but now he uses an electric oven. “Iglesias goes out and buys the ingredients and throws it all together to make a great supper for me and my family,” said one of his customers.

Along with the taste, his prices are not so bad either. A large is 14 dollars and a medium is 10 dollars. Wondering if he has the little boxes Pizza Hut puts your pizza in? The answer is yes. He special orders them and has them sent in from California.

Next time you want a pizza just call up your neighborhood Pizza Hut, Matt Iglesias.

Theatre Art Class

“Act one scene one” shouted Mrs. McCall as the students take their places. The theatre arts class is new to Wilcox County High School. Betty McCall teaches this class. She stated that “it’s one of my favorite classes, I love ending the day with a fun class!” In class the students participate in Reader’s Theatre and play acting games. Students will practice doing monologues. To help students get over their nervousness, they practice and practice. McCall hopes to prepare the students to perform for an audience. They plan to work on the One Act Play. This class gives students life skills and it helps them to work with and get along with other people. “Even if you have no plans to be an actor, having the confidence to get up in front of people is a skill anyone can use” stated McCall.

WCHS Softball

With only a few weeks left, both the varsity and junior varsity will continue to work hard as they have all season. The lady patriots’ schedule has consisted of playing many different teams like; Hawkinsville, Telfair, Bacon, Irwin, Fitzgerald, Schley, and Turner. They have played in tournaments in both Cordele and Fitzgerald, and have played other teams such as Westside, Crisp County, Lee County, and Tift County.
The varsity record is two wins and fifteen losses, while the junior varsity has two wins and three losses, as of September 14, 2010. In the next couple of weeks, Turner travels to Wilcox, and Wilcox travels to Hawkinsville, Fitzgerald and Bacon. When the varsity played Hawkinsville, for the first time this season in Wilcox, it was the first time the Lady Patriots have lost to the Red Devils. Although they lost, they will continue to work hard to beat them when they travel to Hawkinsville.
The varsity has played on all days of the week, except Sunday. The junior varsity hasn’t played as many games as the varsity, but while the varsity plays at home, the junior varsity is always practicing, watching, and learning from their achievements and errors. While the junior varsity plays, the varsity sits on the bleachers and watches and helps the junior varsity.
